double split formation

double split formation

Remember that video I posted a yesterday that featured me and Trevin hopping around like wackos? Here’s the final freeze frame that ended up being my favorite shot from the set.

Some shooting and lighting specifics:

  • Shot on a Nikon D300 with Nikkor 10.5mm Fisheye.
  • Lit by 2 Nikon SB-600s at 1/2 power in shoot-through umbrellas at camera left and camera right.
  • Strobes triggered with Pocket Wizards.
  • Camera triggered with a Gadget Infinity wireless remote.
  • Post-processing in Lightroom 2.

Mad props to Trevin for holding that headstand for a couple of minutes’ worth of shooting. I would’ve broken my neck if I had tried it.

hangar hijinks

Last Friday, Trevin and I did a bunch of jumping and cartwheeling and other stupid stunts at the Chase Jarvis Hangar Shoot. I couldn’t pick just one shot to feature (for now), so I slapped all of them together in a video. You can watch it above streamed from Flickr, or, if you don’t like Flickr vids, head on over to YouTube to watch it.

Here are some technical details for the gearheads out there:

- Everything was shot on my Nikon D300 with a Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8 Fisheye that I rented from Glazer’s Camera.
- The camera was triggered with a Gadget Infinity wireless remote.
- Lighting is comprised of 2 Nikon SB-600s in shoot-through umbrellas at camera left and camera right at 5 ft. high and aimed towards the staging area. Power levels fluctuated between 1/2 and 1/4 power.
- For the most part, exposure was set at 1/250th sec. at f/8 and f/5.6. The ISO was at 800 to let in more ambient light.
- Basic adjustments to maintain lighting consistency was done in Lightroom 2.
- All of the frames were sequenced together in QuickTime Player. Titles and music were added in iMovie.

Thanks to Margaret for being the remote operator on my camera! And thanks to Chase Jarvis and crew for hosting an awesome meetup!

choosing new moo cards

help me pick out my new moo cards

I’m having trouble picking out photos for my new set of Moo cards. There are just too many to choose from, and my brain isn’t working right. So I’m turn to you, my most awesome readers (there are a few of you out there, I think…), to help me choose which images you think I should put on a new set of Moo cards. I already have a few in mind, but I’d like to know what you might like to see on the back of a card.

Have a gander at my Flickr photostream and tag the photo(s) with "Moo2" or leave a comment on the photo. After a certain point (likely in a week or so), I’ll narrow down the nominations to my final picks and share the results.

Let’s see how this works!

sean

a sliver of foole

Here’s a portrait of my buddy Sean that I took at the Seattle Flickr Meetup Garage Shoot at the University of Washington this past weekend. This was lit with one Nikon SB-600 in a silver reflective umbrella somewhere out of frame at camera right. I underexposed the photo quite a bit to make sure I really killed the background (gray concrete wall in the bottom floor of a parking garage) and then boosted the brightness later in post. No special extending of the frame in Photoshop this time. Composed as-is in camera with my new 85/1.8. I think it turned out well.
