happy friday

all hail the glorious donut

Happy Friday everyone! It’s sunny and warm here in the Seattle area, and it looks like it’ll hold out through the weekend. I’ll definitely be outside soaking up the sun and getting more than my fair share of vitamin D. Yay spring!

that time of the month again

5 bucks

It’s that time of the month again. Rent is due. Bills are due. I’m fretting about money. It’s nothing that I can’t handle, but I keep having to remind myself that I can’t be spending money like crazy. I have to watch my spending and not drop a bunch of cash on something I really don’t need right now.

As a camera junkie, that’s a tough thing to do, but it’s good for me to control my Gear Acquisition Syndrome (G.A.S.). I don’t really need more stuff. I have a kick-ass camera and a nice set of decent glass. I have my awesome MacBook. I have all the software I need to do my work. Really, all I need to do is just go take pictures.

Of course, I’ll really have to keep an eye on my money over the next couple of months, because I’ll be in London for vacation soon, and that trip is going to be expensive. I already dropped over a grand for my flight and hotel, and I know just eating and getting around in London is going to be spendy. As of today, the American dollar is worth about 0.6 euros. How’s that for suckage? It’s a good thing I’m not a big shopper when I travel. I just dread the idea of spending $8 or more for a cup of coffee.

I guess it’s a good thing that I’m starting to get paid for my photography. I recently did a corporate headshot session for a big-shot senior VP, and I’ll have a photo used in an upcoming magazine article (more on that when the issue is on newsstands). It’s nowhere near enough money to cover my trip, but it’s something.

emerging lotsa green angling for sun

Spring is here, and what better way to kick it off than by going for a leisurely photostroll through the Bellevue Botanical Garden. Every year I say that I’m not much of a floral photography guy, but then every year I go out and take pictures of flowers. I have no rhyme or reason for why I do that. It just happens. Flowers are pretty and generally willing photography subjects. There’s a nice variety of them I can photograph. And I get to go outside and get some fresh air. And did I say flowers are pretty? ;)

is it really winter?

yes, this is in seattle

Technically, it’s still winter, but the sunny skies indicate otherwise. It’s been like this all week. Crisp cold morning with a little bit of frost and ice on the car. Then, the sun bursts over the horizon, and it’s warm and glorious. It’s very confusing for my poor tiny brain.

It’s also very annoying, because I see all this wonderful weather from my office window, but I’m stuck inside sitting at a computer all day. I want to be outside, dammit! At least I got to enjoy some of the nice weather and went on a photostroll with a few Flickrites on Monday afternoon (for those not in the US, it was President’s Day, which is a holiday for many of us).

I really hope some of this sun holds out through part of the weekend. I’d like to get a little bit more outside time before the grayness and the rain return. I’m crossing my fingers.
