Oh hey! It’s Halloween! And that means cool costumes, fun parties, and general merriment. At Amaze Entertainment, it also means it’s time for the annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest. Each year the party gets bigger and more involved, thanks to our awesome studio coordinators. This year we had pizza and sandwiches catered, several games and activities for the kids, face painting, and a much bigger and official costume contest than previous years.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from the party:

And here’s the winner of the costume contest. Christine (yes, a girl) did an awesome job with the Darth Maul makeup. She wore the outfit all day despite the overly warm temperature in the building. I can’t tell you how odd it was initially seeing a 5-foot-something Asian girl walk down the hall dressed as a Sith Lord.

Lately I’ve been digging using my iPhone as a relatively lo-fi point-and-shoot camera for when I don’t feel like lugging out my D300. The iPhone’s camera isn’t bad, but it also isn’t all that great. It has good resolution for web and small to medium prints. There’s plenty of data for post-processing (in fact, all images shot with an iPhone could use a bit of post regardless). And, unlike my D300, it fits in my pocket and it doesn’t scream “look at my giant black camera of DOOM”.
Here are a few photos that I snapped yesterday:

Anyone who’s used camera phones can see that these are obviously not straight out of camera. These were taken with an iPhone and then processed in Lightroom. (I’m not a purist when it comes to photography.) Even then, I am continually impressed with the nice results I can get when I work with iPhone photos. I even printed out some of the images at 8″ x 10″ to hang in Margaret’s apartment, and they look really good.
My iPhone is no substitute for a good compact camera (I’ve been eying the Panasonic Lumix LX3…), but it works fine if I’m not in a rush and don’t need super-high-quality images. It’s the one camera that is always with me. Can’t say the same for my other “real” cameras.
I’ve been sort of laying low with the photography for the past week or so mostly due to being worn out and tired from work. I also haven’t been terribly inspired nor motivated to shoot much beyond my daily 365 Days photos. I did, however, manage to snap a few fun photos from this past weekend.
First up, I got some cool goggles:

Next, Margaret and I made flapjacks and sausage for breakfast:

Finally, Alex tries to have a conversation with Margaret:

My fun photos come in spurts. Hopefully, I’ll have a few more soon.
Just wanted to share a couple of images I took last night that bring me back to my “old” way of shooting.

Lighting info for the jump shot: One Vivitar 285HV at camera right, triggered by Gadget Infinity Cactus V2s. Nice and simple.
Both images shot on my Nikon D300 with a Sigma 10-20mm ultra wide-angle lens. These were taken at Medina Beach Park, one of my favorite locations of lake-side photos. It’s quiet, secluded, and offers a clean view of the lake.
