This past Saturday was the first truly warm and sunny day we’ve had this spring, and it was the perfect weather for spending the afternoon at the Skagit Tulip Festival in Mount Vernon. Because of the late wintery weather we’ve had in the past couple of weeks, the tulips were late to bloom this year. There were only a few small field of tulips in color when we got up there, but what was in bloom was absolutely gorgeous. The only downside was there far too many people crowding around the few fields of flowers. With a bit of patience and careful framing, though, I still managed to get a few wide shots.
If you haven’t been up to the Tulip Festival yet, I highly recommend heading up to Mount Vernon to see it. It’s really quite nice. I’d also recommend getting up there in the morning (10-11 am is just right) or late in the day to avoid the afternoon traffic. Sometimes the cars can line up all the way down highway 20 out to I-5.
As of Tuesday night, Flickr now supports video. There are people who already having fun with it, like my buddy Ras, and then there are the people are poo-poo-ing the presence of anything that is not still photography. Personally, I think it’s going to be fun. With the large and strong community that is already established on Flickr, creating and sharing videos is going to be as entertaining as sharing photos. In fact, because the videos are limited to 90 seconds, we have to be very creative in how much content we throw into the video. I, for one, am going to enjoy adding more video to my photostream. I might even dump in some animations from time to time.
After taking a break from any sort of major photography project, I’ve decided to jump back into 365 Days. The first year was incredibly challenging, educational, and fun, and I was starting to miss the daily routine of working on self-portraits. Now that I’ve had some time to reset, I’m ready to take on the challenge again. So, here goes 365 Days Year 2!
