lighting is fun

I’ve been bitten by the lighting bug. After a couple of (mostly) impromptu photo shoots focusing on lighting setups, I really want to get some gear of my own. I’ve been working with a single flash with my D70 to do a few things, but it would be really nice to get a second flash, an umbrella or two, reflectors, and, most of all, a good radio wireless trigger system.

Pictured above is an image that I took on Wednesday night when a few Flickrites got together to do some shooting. Jeremy and John were kind enough to bring their lighting gear for the rest of us to use, and, man, was it fun. This image features the always-wonderful Brittney as the model and a simple 2-light setup: one flash in the back for rim lighting and another to camera right as the main light source. Everything was triggered via Pocket Wizards. Not a whole lot to it, and the results are really nice.

I’ve already spent a lot of money this month upgrading my digital editing setup, so I’ll have to hold off for a bit on getting lighting gear. At least I have a flash I can use off-camera for now. But soon… I will have more gear… more toys…

The stuff you are doing with lighting is awesome and inspirational. It’s is amazing what light changes in a photograph.
