seattle flickrites and the st. paddy’s day parade

Saturday was St. Patrick’s Day, and it also happened to be the day of the March Seattle Flickr Meetup. For this month’s meetup, we decided to attend the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Seattle. Parades are always have great photographic opportunities, and since very few of our Flickr events fall on holidays, we figured we’d take advantage of the good timing.

We were hoping our good weather mojo would stick with us for another month, but it looked like Mother Nature had other plans. The morning was cold and cloudy, and, by the time the parade started, it was a downpour. It was easily the wettest meetup ever, and I know several people just bailed and went somewhere dry.

A couple of other Flickrites and I managed to find cover under the flatbed trailer that was used for the VIP section and the TV broadcast station. It ended up being one of the best spots for shooting the parade. Not only did we have cover from the rain, everyone in the parade stopped in front of the trailer for the TV broadcast. We had plenty of time to take our photos without stupid tourists and visitors blocking our view. Of course, I had to crouch the entire time, so my knees really didn’t like me by the end of the parade. I got my shots, though, so I’m happy.

After the parade, the remaining Flickrites gathered at Gordon Biersch inside Pacific Place mall for a late lunch and some holiday booze. All in all, despite the rain, it was a fun meetup. You can check out my photos from the day in my Flickr photostream.
