Whooo…. lots of stuff happened this weekend. I’m going to slam everything into one post tonight. :)
Friday was my last day on Pirates. I get this coming week off, and then I’ll be back at work on another unannounced project. It’ll involve animation, but that’s about all I can say for now. It’s super-secret.
Friday was also St. Patrick’s Day (in case you missed all the green). To celebrate, a bunch of us had a nice relaxing dinner at The Hi-Life in Ballard. Good food, if a bit on the spendy side. It was a sort of Italian-Greek-Mediterranean hybrid menu. Cocktails were pretty good too. I had the Pirate’s Pleasure, which consisted of two kinds of rum and pineapple juice. Very tasty.
After dinner we all migrated over to Bal-Mar, a relatively new bar also in Ballard. It was a pretty small place without much in the way of seating space, but the overall ambiance was kind of nice. We did manage to score a pool table, so we were able to play some games when it was too loud to speak.
Saturday afternoon was the monthly Seattle Flickr Meetup Photostroll. Our destination this month was the Washington Park Arboretum. I don’t generally spend much time photographing flowers, but I figured that it would be nice to walk around the arboretum, get some fresh air, and hang out with like-minded people for an afternoon. We had a nice leisurely walk around the arboretum and the Japanese Gardens, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. I’m still processing and uploading photos, but the first batch is already in my Flickr photostream.
Saturday night, I met up with Scott and Tom for dinner at the Indian Bistro in Ballard, and then we caught a late show of V For Vendetta at The Majestic Bay. V was a fun movie. Well-designed visuals, interesting spin on the story for a 2006 crowd (the story was originally a commentary on Margaret Thatcher era Great Britain), and a generally entertaining cinematic experience. I’ll agree with Scott in that the content was a bit heavy-handed, and I did feel like I was being spoon-fed everything. However, I was going there to be entertained, so it all worked out for me.
Sunday was actually quite a relaxing and relatively uneventful day. I spent part of the afternoon strolling around Magnuson Park and enjoying the clear day. There wasn’t much in the way of interesting photo ops, so I only snapped a few shots. I did watch a couple of eagles chase each other and stood very still as they cruised within 20 feet of my head. I wasn’t able to get a shot of them, but I wasn’t too disappointed. I was just in awe that they flew so close to me. The rest of the day was spent lounging around my apartment, watching a few movies on TV, and slowly processing my shots from the photostroll at the arboretum.
It’s weird knowing that I don’t have to go back to work for another week. My schedule is going to be thrown completely out of whack, but it’s most definitely going to be a nice relaxing week. I’m planning on heading into downtown Seattle to get some weekday shots of the people and the city. I’m always there on a weekend, so it’ll be neat to see “normal” life there. I’m also going to printing up some large version of some of my photos to frame and put up in my apartment. I’ve been putting this off for a couple of months, but now I actually have a lot of time to work on it. And I’m going to sleep. Sleep a lot. That will be the best part of this week. :)
