Getting a slightly early start to February’s Self Portrait Tuesday theme, “All of Me“. This month will be all about the not-so-nice bits of me and my life. Today’s photo is post-shower me. Messy hair. Dry skin. Old worn-out t-shirt. Very bland, boring, white bathroom. Not a pretty sight. :P
The weather here has been going wacko for the past week. First it rains nonstop for 5 days. Then there’s a momentary break of sunlight. Then the rain hits again. Then sun. And then rain again. Now there’s sunlight. And I’m sure it’ll rain again tonight. I think Mother Nature is having some serious mood swings.
I did manage to get outside on Saturday to take in some of the sunlight. It was unbelievably cold (in hindsight, gloves would’ve been a good investment), but that didn’t stop me from taking a walk through Enatai Park and Downtown Park in Bellevue and along the lake in Kirkland. Although I froze my fingers off, it was definitely worth it to get some fresh air, be in the sun, and get in a much-needed photowalk.
Seeing as there hadn’t been much blue sky in recent weeks, I spent most of the afternoon photographing the sky and clouds in various states. I also had some fun photographing the ducks and seagulls along the waterfront. Those birds have no fear of humans, so I was able to get some nice close-ups of them.

Happy Chinese New Year! It is now officially the Year of the Dog. According to Astrology.com:
[This year will] bring increased social awareness and interest in society’s less powerful members. Any tendencies to take, take, take will be replaced by a widespread sentiment of generosity and selflessness.
Sounds pleasant enough to me. As for how this year is supposed to shape up for Rabbits (that’s my Chinese zodiac sign):

However, sometimes in the course of the year, you’ll allow yourself to be unstable. But if you remember that ‘he who moved the mountain is he who had begun with taking away small stones’ (Chinese proverb), then you’d be more prone to perseverance.
Overall, looks good to me. I like the idea being more upbeat and cheerful. Expanding my network is always a good thing. The instability part is not quite so nice to think about, but there’s always a positive and negative outlook on everything. It’s that whole yin-yang thing.
I’m not generally one to subscribe to horoscopes and whatnot, but I do get a kick out of reading these generic yearly outlooks and seeing how they pan out the following year. Last year (the Year of the Rooster) was a mostly good year for me. It was supposed to be year for rebuilding, starting from scratch, and putting thing back into order. Hard work and focus in the professional world would be rewarded. I’d say that pretty much all of that happened last year. New job, new apartment, new social circles, new hobbies. Everything started (mostly) from scratch and has panned out quite well.
I’m optimistic about this year. For the first time in a long time, I feel like things are stabilizing (at least in terms of my career and finances), and I do have some personal goals that I’ve set for myself. I’m not making any huge immediate changes in my life nor tackling things aggressively. “He who moved the mountain is he who had begun with taking away small stones.” Translation: Baby steps. Patience and perseverance have always been my strong qualities. Time to let them shine.
