MonkeyZombie Bashes Into Level 5

After a very fun but exhausting Thanksgiving with the family, I spent most of Friday evening zoning out in front of the TV with Halo 2. Something must have clicked tonight, because I managed to do fairly well in the majority of the Team Skirmish matches and jumped from Level 3 to Level 5.

Some highlights of the night included a first place win and two second place wins in some Team Slayer matches, playing good defense for the winning teams in Capture the Flag and Crazy King, and hanging onto the ball for 1 minute and 20 seconds of the winning team’s 2-minute victory in Teamball. I started the evening at Level 3 and finished at Level 5. Since the Team Slayer matches were arranged games, they didn’t count towards my experience points. However, the CTF, Crazy King, and Oddball games definitely counted and helped boost me to Level 5.

One of the coolest things about the matches was the level spread in the games that I played. I noticed I was one of the lower ranked players in most of the winning games. Because I actually beat higher ranked players, my experience point gain was pretty significant (you can read all about level calculations at Bungie.net). That probably accounts for my 2-level jump and definitely helps boost my confidence just a little bit. I’m still not that good, so I guess I was just lucky. :)

The weekend is still young, so I’ll probably put in more practice time this weekend. I feel like I’m starting to get used to the different maps in the game, so I don’t feel nearly as lost and disoriented as I did last week. I’m at Level 5 though, so the competition is going to get tougher. I’ll definitely need to practice more.
